Reliable access to phone and internet service is more important than ever. If your household meets the guidelines outlined below, you could qualify for federal or state discounts that make it easier to stay connected with the people and services that matter most.
Lifeline Support for Iowans
The Lifeline Program helps qualified Iowa households afford essential phone or broadband service by providing a monthly credit of up to $9.25. Each household can receive only one Lifeline benefit, for either landline or broadband internet service.
You may qualify if someone in your household participates in one of these programs:
- Medicaid
- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
- SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
- LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program)
- TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)
- National School Lunch Program
Households may also qualify based on income.

Affordable Phone & Broadband Assistance for Minnesota Households
Qualifying Minnesota residents may be eligible for certain discounts through Lifeline and the Telephone Assistance Program (TAP) to help them establish and maintain phone or broadband service. Additionally, Toll Limitation Service (TLS) is available to eligible consumers to block or limit long-distance calls at no cost.
Available Discounts:
- Lifeline: Federal program providing up to $9.25/month toward basic phone or broadband service
- TAP: Minnesota state program offering $10/month off your phone service
You may qualify if you or someone in your household participates in one of these programs:
- Federal Public Housing Assistance Medicaid / Medical Assistance
- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
- SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
- Veterans Pension or Survivors Pension benefit
You may also qualify if your household income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Additional qualifying programs for residents on a reservation:
- Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
- Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
- Tribally Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
- Tribally Administered Head Start (income-qualified only)
