TV FAQs
My TV isn’t working – what should I try first?
Ensure the TV is plugged in and receiving power. If only one TV is having trouble, try rebooting the set-top box or streaming device connected to that TV.
How do I restart my streaming device or my set top box (STB)?
The simplest method to reboot a streaming device or set-top box is to disconnect them from power, wait 30 seconds, then plug them back in. Be patient while the system goes through the reboot process, this process can take several minutes.
The set-top box and streaming boxes will have a thin wire with a round barrel-type connector for power, whereas most streaming sticks are powered via USB cords. To disconnect at the device, grasp the cord close to the connector and pull straight out.
How do I change the input on my TV?
To change the input, look for a button labeled “Input” on your TV remote.
Every TV is a little different, but here’s how it usually works:
- Press the TV button at the top of the remote.
- Press the Input
- Continue pressing the Input button to cycle through the available options (such as HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.) until the correct one appears on your screen.
- Press the middle button (Select/OK) to confirm.
If your TV shows an on-screen input menu instead:
- Use the arrow buttons on your remote to highlight the desired input.
- Press the Select/OK button (usually in the center of the arrow buttons) to confirm.
What does “no signal” mean on my television screen?
Most of the time, this means your TV is set to the wrong input.
Follow these steps using your WCTA universal remote:
- Press the TV button at the top of the remote.
- Press the Input button (located near the bottom left corner of the remote).
- Continue pressing the Input button to cycle through the available options (such as HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.) until the correct one appears on your screen.
- Press the middle button (Select/OK) to confirm.
If you’re unsure which HDMI option to choose, try them one at a time until your picture appears.
How do I turn of closed captioning?
The method for toggling closed captioning differs based on your streaming device:
WCTA Set-Top Box (STB):
- Press the STB button at the top of the remote.
- Press the # (pound) button (below the number 9).
- Keep pressing # until you see “Closed Captioning Off” on the screen.
Roku:
While watching a program:
- Press the * (asterisk) button on your Roku remote.
- Select Closed Captioning.
- Choose Off
Fire TV:
Closed caption controls on Fire TV can vary by app, but here’s a common way:
- Start playing a show or movie.
- While it’s playing, press the down arrow or menu button so the on-screen controls appear.
- Look for a CC (Closed Caption) option on screen.
- Select it and choose Off.
If you don’t see it during playback, you can also go to Settings > Accessibility > Closed Captions on your Fire TV and turn them off system wide.
Apple TV:
Apple TV closed caption controls depend on the app you’re using, but the common method is:
- Start playing a show or movie.
- Bring up the playback controls.
- Look for a Subtitles/CC option on-screen and choose Off.
You can also turn off captions in the Apple TV Settings > Accessibility > Subtitles & Captioning menu.
Note: Closed captioning can sometimes be turned on/off in your TV’s settings (not just in the streaming app or set-top box). If that’s the case, you’ll need to turn it off using your TV’s manufacturer’s instructions.
My TV screen is cut off, and I can’t see the full picture. What should I do?
To adjust the picture size:
- Press the STB button at the top of the remote.
- Then press the * (asterisk) button (located below the number 7).
- Continue pressing the * button until the screen displays the option you prefer (for example, “Fit to Screen.”)
- Stop when the picture fills your screen correctly.
If the picture is still cut off, please contact WCTA support and we’ll be happy to help.
Note: These steps apply to customers using a WCTA set-top box and universal remote. Settings may vary if you are using a different streaming device or your TV’s remote.
What’s the difference between the TV and STB buttons on my remote?

The clear buttons at the top of the remote tell it which device you want to control.

For example:
